Topic:  Help documenting the early mp3 scene
* Posted by rx_ Sunday 23 October 2011 - 17:05
Hopefully it's alright to post this here.

A few friends and I recently set about documenting the early mp3 warez scene (1995-1999); sort of a Defacto2 specifically for mp3. Here is the URL: www.mp3scene.info. Our reason for doing so was primarily due to a lack of a similar, definitive record but also because we felt the mp3 scene has often been looked down upon in contrast to traditional warez, when actually the early scene was extremely innovative & interesting.

To that end, we've been collecting ASCII/ANSI art, release NFOs, scene mags, articles, group information, etc. While 1999 and to an extent 1998 are well-covered, what we're really lacking is files from pre-1998. I know a lot of old sceners hang around here so I was hoping to put out a plea to get in touch. Our aim is not to put people at risk (hence we're only covering the early scene) and the site hosts no illegal content whatsoever. Some examples of groups we're looking for files relating to are CDA, DAC, L3AP, MTDs, RDM, HNA, sFx, DMA, and so on.

Here's the URL of the site: www.mp3scene.info

If you're interested - or know someone who might be - please get in touch at http://www.mp3scene.info/about/contact/ or visit us at #mp3scene on EFNet.

Thanks a lot
