Topic:  SigGraph Expo
* Posted by TetsuoShima Friday 17 September 2004 - 11:32
Dunno if any of you have heard of this, but I think a lot of you will be interested. For the uninitiated, it's an expo to do with CG work, (so that's hardware and peoples work.) The only reason i'm bringing this up is because a lot of the work is highly similar to some of the high quality scene deoms. Imagine if you will... Showing your wares at this and getting the recognition you rightly deserve.

I wish I could go to SIGGRAPH, but it's just too darn far away for me. You have to be a member of ACM to get in cheaply too.

I have seen examples of SIGGRAPH's work though. In our library at our university, we have "conference proceedings" that you can read about from SIGGRAPH (which is really interesting if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

If anybody wants to get your feet wet, www.archive.org has the 2000(?) releases from SIGGRAPH up for grabs there.

Cheers,

Hah, that's how I found out about it. The site was printed in the local paper. :)

That's where I fell in love with "Animusic".

Have you seen any of that stuff yet?

Has anyone else from the demoscene ever thought of doing anything for SIGGRAPH?

I have seen Animusic.. that's awesome. At archive.org, I think they have an "episode" there for you to download. I want the DVD though.

The DOG folks got another category of real-time art in the electronic theatre presentation to which you could submit something. I say do the work on your regular demo, get it released at a party and them submit it to SIGGRAPH for the electronic theatre, if you want a SIGGRAPH tie-in.

I can see where you're coming from. Just think of all the "better" demo products out there that are upto/above par with the animations submitted to SIGGRAPH.

Maybe....... They could produce a *realtime* catagory for the demoscene. People could vote for the very best demos.
