Topic:  Looking for demo group
* Posted by Jaleho Monday 13 June 2005 - 16:53
Greetings. I am a graphic artist / programmer who has been working with actionscript, javascript, DarkBASIC and some simple cgi/perl. I have just recently started learning C++, and would like to learn more about it. Since my interest in C++ is to visualize algorhythms, l-systems and procedural methods, I thought creating demos would be a good direction to go in.

However, I seem to be kind of lost - C++ is so massive, and I don't know what direction to go in. Overall, it has the feel of actionscript, so it hasn't been too hard to learn the basics. But So much of the visual side (apaprt from printing text in dos) involves lots of advanced external libraries.

I'd like to start making demos, and would like some advice/mentroship in what direction to start. I'd rather have a concrete goal to head towards (pan around a 3d still life while playing a simple tune) than memorize a list of commands (Hello world) - making the learning applicable... can ya tell I write curriculum? :)

Are there any groups (USA or otherwise) that would be willing to take a fledgling programmer under their wing? I don't eat much and I already know the basics of OOP and classes :)
