| | Topic: | Whats going on out there? | | | | What all ye americans doing? Well this american is sitting here getting ready to go to school. So I am bored and so i post this random monkey thing here to see how many weirdos there are out there like me. :-D | | |
| | Well count one wierdo amongst you.:-) | | |
| | Yay!!! This makes me happy. | | |
| Yo,
do you code, make music, or do graphics?
| | Im a n00b coder. Only in highschool. Learning Java right now in school and tring to teach myself C++. So right now I am worthless to this comunity. :-P But I am a coder. At least I would say so. Learning about binary trees right now which are really cool. Already did singaly linked list and doubly linked list. So I know my way around code a bit. | | |
| | Hey fellow American's I don't get why we arnt into the demo scene. I mean there are so many big dumps/topsites in the states ya know. I would love to go to a party or whatever and do some graphics but there are none :( | | |
| | I know. I think we are too lazy... | | |
| Well, as for American parties, there is Pilgrimage, which is in Salt Lake City. But I'm on the East Coast.
As for myself, I'm interested in joining an active group or starting one. My main skill is music. But I know a bit of C++, and can draw a little too. Hey treewalker, what type of graphics do you?
| Hit me with yer shit.
(Ok so I'm West Coast, and hell I'm in the UK right now, but screw it, hit me with it anyway.)
| | Ok man I must be a dork because I love Let's take it back to MS-DOS. I got like 10 computers that only run DOS and Windows 3.1. Its nutz. [Post edited by Duck Man on Thursday 4 March 2004 - 7:27] | | |

| There are still those of us in US that are 'into' demoscene. Even some of of us that have been around for quite awhile.
My only involvement, besides admiration and discussion, is tracked music. And has been as such since the beginning about 10 years ago.
Agreed, we'd love to host a party in the midwest. Then you east coasters can't cry about going too far.
But think of this next time you whine about going to SLC from east coast. I drove from Chicago to San Diego for 40 hours straight, to go a demo party. You can too :)[Post edited by troll on Monday 24 May 2004 - 21:23]
| I know Pilgrimage is a long way to travel for people on the east coast. If you want to submit an entry to the compo, but can't attend, then your best bet is to find someone who is going to the party that will be your physical representative. Note that if you win, your representative will be the one making the video postcard for your production, so you might want to choose wisely :-).
Also, I just checked Southwest and Jet Blue and both had airfares for about $300 roundtrip from the east coast, which isn't bad considering the distance.
I know its still a lot of money, however if you get $20 for cutting someone's lawn, thats only 15 lawns you have to cut in order to earn the cash. If you cut only 1 lawn per weekend, then you still have time to earn the cash between now and the middle of September. Think positive!
I also checked Greyhound for bus fares, but it only saves you $100 and it takes a really long time sitting on that bus to save $100.
Amtrak also serves Salt Lake City, but it takes just as long as the bus and costs more than the plane! That's government efficiency for ya.

Hrm. I've been unemployed the past (5) months but fortunately I managed to cough up the $1256.40/ea from San Francisco to Helsinki so I can make it to Assembly 2004. God damn, that's one hell of a lot of lawns.
But yeah, Pilgrimage is pocket change, for a buck fifty I'm there!
| | Well, I'd love to get something started in the States. I'm actively getting together a party, aiming at this coming summer. It's gonna be in Minnesota, unless I change addresses. This way, I guess, it'll be euqally expensive for people on either coast. And just to add my two cent's worth, I think that the reason there isn't more scene activity is because in Europe, you can just hop over to another country for a weekend. It's just a short ride over to the lead programmer's house to work out some bugs, etc., too. In the US, it's a good 1000 miles to get someplace for a party and a good 45-minute drive to get together with your team. Anyway, if anyone is still actually reading this thread (started more than a year ago...) let me know if you're interested. Website up soon? Keep making those prize-winning demos for "US Party '05" (unless I come up with a better name; shouldn't be too hard :D ) | | |

| somehow i feel like im being watched because im american.
i know barely anything about coding, but ideas are my strong point. i have recently started to learn python, and im really stumped reading the redbook, but im manipulating it.
i live in ohio, and also agree on a demoparty for the eastern US.
| | I am a coder and looking for an artist to get a demo started with. You can email me a link with your work and I will get back to ya on it. my email is underdog194@hotmail.com | | |
| Hey Legalize,
I had to take down all the computer nerd songs as I severed ties with the M.C. He didn't want me distributing something with his vocals on it. I'll still see if I can dig it up and link it sometime soon.
Thanks,

| Yes! Hard-friging-core!
Man, if there were enough of these to cut an entire album...
