| | Topic: | Syntax 2008 - Official Invite, Prize List and video channel | | | G'day all!
It's been a big weekend. The following is now officialy launched:
- The Syntax 2008 Invite (for Amiga AGA/OCS) Video Cap
- Syntax Youtube Page which includes video from 2007 and a hype video. (sorry ALIH - it automatically picked you as the thumbnail!)
- A slight update to the compos page
- The official PRIZE list which could grow as more is donated ;-)
If you are coming to Syntax, visit the site and register so we can organize power requirements and computer places - and we'll see you there!
ps. If you don't yet have a SceneID, head over to http://www.pouet.net and register your scene alias. This means that Australia will have a more predominent place in the scene and it also allows you to comment on releases, log into scene related areas and comment on this discussion board (our main form of communication). Most scene related sites use your sceneID [Post edited by cTrix on Wednesday 10 September 2008 - 8:58]
| | (disclaimer: ALiH is not representitive of party people. Party people are a lot more party, and a lot less buried in loader code!) | | |
| Persuant to the last comment, ALiH's guide for successful oldschool party demoing:
a) DO NOT TRY TO LINK YOUR DEMO AT THE PARTY. Seriously, guys. I know some of you will, and well, the way my demo is going I may be right there with you, but it will end in fail. Trust me...
b) Test your prod on hardware like the party hardware. Don't be like ALiH, and test your loader on a 1570 and through an ethernet connection, but not on a normal 1541. Seriously.
c) In a similar vein, if you feel the need to make whacky video modes, do test them on something other than your own CRT first. Particlarly, the gamma of the projector does NOT match your CRT nessesarily. Google around, KB did a good article on coding for the projector. Failig that, find a friend with a projector to test on. (hi, i'm a c64 scener with a projector if you're in melbourne).
d) it's all about style! find a graphic artist. Also, kicking music is kicking and awesome
| That's some good advice!
Technically the projector should have done a field bob and shown the screen mode (my Sony that we used at Beach Party does) - but the venues projector was actually deinterlacing the image with dropfield for some reason.. (!!) I think it might have been locked at 75hz so cheating with 25x3 rather than bobbing to 50hz. We've got a spare projector this time around that we will test in advance.
The Party PC will be available for testing peoples - so feel free to compile and take over a copy to run at any time.
| On the subject of projector tech, I actualy found with my one that c64 signals only display correctly if I turn off the deinterlacter. Otherwise, it displays all colours dark.
Bit then, for an oldschool signal, deinterlacing is wrong anyhow :)
In other news, technology sucks and I hate it :-p
| | Well; we can always pickup a decent CRT (you can find them on the side of the road these days) and just crowd around that..! | | |
| Yup, not linking at the party is a very good idea for oldskool entries.
PC entries ... well, at least the test on compo box/debug/compile/goto 10 cycle is pretty quick.
This time I'm hoping to have finished everything before I turn up - Syntax isn't the longest of parties, and last time the party coding took up a lot of time I'd liked to have spent chatting with other visitors.
ALIH: We'll have a 1541-II drive there on the day. If you can't test for whatever reason, bring your 1570 and we'll use that for your entry.
Someone remind me to crack open my older C64 and check the SID revision.
| | i should do a pc demo, one of these days. With an elephant in it. maybe a 256byte fractal elephant. I could call it elefract. or fractephant. | | |
| | I'm brining an Esky, Those beers are mine ya hear ! | | |
| UPDATE!!!
New Prizes just been added for Syntax 2008 (thanks GS and MazSound) Also about to update syntax youtube station.
How are people going with their demos? I know of one Amiga AGA demo which is coming along...
(or maybe just keep it a surprise on the day... just PLEASE let me know if you are using FLI or HiRez modes coz of the projector. Thanks)[Post edited by cTrix on Tuesday 21 October 2008 - 19:01]
| Who's doing the AGA demo? =D
Our's is ECS so far ... mind you, we'll see how we go with chipram consumption before we say that's how it will be on the day ;)
I hear there's some PC stuff in the pipeline too ;)
| Too easy !

cTrix, Your mailbox quota has exceeded (3:33am Thursday the 23rd) It's spitting out multiple sends and not receiving mail.[Post edited by OneVoltSun on Wednesday 22 October 2008 - 18:41]

| Are pants really required for syntax? really?
(melbourne c64 party posse - no pants required)[Post edited by a life in hell on Thursday 30 October 2008 - 12:06]
| | Well make sure you've got your undies on :) ha! | | |
| | If anyone has one of those network cable crimpy tools can you bring it? Thanks! [Post edited by cTrix on Tuesday 28 October 2008 - 17:06] | | |
| There's one around here somewhere, although the cutting blade is a little rooted (still usable)
Do you need cat5 plugs? Stranded core?
| | If anyone knows of people who are interested or are coming to Syntax 2008 - but havn't registered - poke 'em to visit the Syntax site. There was a list minute influx last year (a number on the day) and a few people got stuck outside and couldn't get in. Although we might consider publishing the bell code this year ;-) | | |
| | The 'Synthacy' logo for 'Syntax' is good. [Post edited by OneVoltSun on Saturday 15 November 2008 - 21:19] | | |
| Everyone who has registered will have recently (aka. 29th October) recieved an email with details about Syntax 2008.
We forgot to mention that there is 4P parking across the road from the venue and a carpark failing that. There is also a loading zone if you are bringing a monster of a machine along.
Cheers. | | |
